SheElite Launch Event: Empowering Young Women Through Sport on International Women’s Day
On March 8th, in celebration of International Women’s Day, Athletic Elite proudly hosted a landmark event to officially launch the SheElite movement in Northampton. This free community gathering brought together young women, local leaders, and inspiring figures from the world of sports, all united by a shared goal: to empower girls and young women through the transformative power of sport.
Held at Northampton School for Boys, the event was an evening filled with motivation, connection, and learning. Attendees had the unique opportunity to hear from a diverse line-up of female international speakers, successful local female entrepreneurs, and even Commonwealth medal-winning athletes. These role models shared their personal journeys, offering invaluable insights into the challenges and triumphs they’ve experienced in both sports and life.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the powerful message behind the SheElite movement. SheElite is more than just a sports initiative; it’s a call to action for young women to embrace their potential, build confidence, and engage actively with their own health and wellbeing. Through this movement, Athletic Elite aims to create a safe and supportive environment where girls can not only thrive athletically but also develop the mental and emotional skills necessary for success in all aspects of life.
Jordan Fava, a former professional basketball player with a PhD in cognitive psychology, played a central role in the event. With her dual expertise in basketball and psychology, Jordan emphasized the critical importance of using sport as a tool for personal development. "Athletic Elite’s ethos is that sport has the power to change lives," Jordan shared with the audience. "SheElite recognizes that girls and young women may not initially see sport as a place where they can feel comfortable and express themselves. We want them to know it’s a safe space and a powerful forum to build physical, mental, and emotional skills."
The event was not only a celebration of women in sport but also a demonstration of the community's commitment to supporting young women on their journey to becoming confident, healthy, and empowered individuals. The evening concluded with opportunities for the attendees to engage in discussions, network with the speakers and local business leaders, and learn more about how they can get involved with SheElite.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a success. The SheElite launch marks the beginning of an exciting journey, and we are committed to continuing this important work, shining a light on the opportunities available to young women in sport, and buildin12g a future where every girl feels empowered to be her best self.
Stay tuned for more events and initiatives from SheElite as we continue to inspire and uplift the next generation of female athletes and leaders.
